A youth running program for kids ages 2 through 14 starts Sunday, Sept. 13, at Maine South High School in Park Ridge.
The Healthy Kids Running Series, a national nonprofit, is hosting its fall program at 111 South Dee Road. Races run Sundays from Sept. 13 through Oct. 18, starting at 11 a.m.
Distances are scaled by age. Two- and three-year-olds run a 50-yard dash. Four- and five-year-olds cover 75 yards. Kindergartners and first graders run a quarter mile, second and third graders a half mile. Fourth and fifth graders run a mile, as do sixth through eighth graders in a separate division. A Challenger Division for participants with physical or cognitive disabilities offers a 75-yard dash.
Full series registration is $54, including a $4 platform fee, according to the program's RunSignUp page. Registration includes a race bib for all weeks, a T-shirt and a medal. Single-day walk-up registration is also available on race days.
Stroll Park Ridge is a sponsor of the local series.
