Cook County erases $1 billion in medical debt for 791,000 residents

Cook County's Medical Debt Relief Initiative has erased more than $1 billion in medical debt for over 791,000 residents, including those in Park Ridge and Niles, with notification letters arriving the week of Aug. 17 and President Preckwinkle proposing continued funding in the FY2027 budget.
