The Niles Village Board will hold a special meeting at 4 p.m. Friday, Aug. 14, after its regular July session collapsed when too few trustees showed up to conduct business.

Only three of the board's six members appeared at the Tuesday, July 21 meeting: Mayor George Alpogianis and trustees Ajay Mody and Craig Niedermaier. Board rules require at least four members present for a quorum. With trustee Dean Strzelecki and at least two others absent, the meeting was canceled almost immediately.

The village's official calendar lists Friday's session as a one-hour window, 4–5 p.m., at Niles Village Hall.

The specific agenda for the special meeting had not been posted as of Monday, Aug. 10, but it could include items left unconsidered from the canceled July meeting, the Journal & Topics reported.

Friday afternoon meetings are unusual for the board, which typically convenes on Tuesday evenings. The quorum failure itself is uncommon for Niles, where the six-member body rarely lacks the four officials needed to take votes on ordinances, contracts and other village business.

No public statements from Alpogianis or any trustee have explained the July absences.
