Aircraft noise monitors and a Fly Quiet action plan top the agenda when an O'Hare-area inter-governmental committee meets Tuesday, Oct. 20.

The O'Hare Noise Compatibility Commission (ONCC) Technical Committee will convene at 9 a.m. at Bensenville Village Hall, 12 S. Center Street, Bensenville. The meeting agenda includes a presentation on noise monitors, a separate noise monitor update and a discussion of a Fly Quiet Report follow-up and action plan.

The committee will also consider approving minutes from its Sept. 22 meeting and begin planning its 2027 meeting topics. A public comment period is on the agenda.

The ONCC includes 43 member communities and 18 school districts around O'Hare International Airport. Park Ridge and Niles are among those communities. ONCC Chair Joe Annunzio represents the Village of Niles on the commission.

At a 30th anniversary celebration in September, Annunzio said the commission would continue working through policy to reduce aircraft noise across the region. He noted the ONCC has developed a new Fly Quiet Program for O'Hare that is awaiting approval.

Over three decades, the commission has overseen sound insulation of more than 12,000 homes and 124 schools through Chicago Department of Aviation (CDA) programs, according to the anniversary announcement. CDA Commissioner Michael McMurray called the ONCC a template for airports worldwide on noise mitigation.

The meeting is open to the public. The ONCC holds more than 20 public meetings each year. The commission's next scheduled meeting is Nov. 6, according to its website.
