The Voices of Hope Community Chorus needs more men who love to sing.
The non-auditioned chorus, which draws members from across Chicagoland whose lives have been touched by breast cancer, opens its fall rehearsal season Thursday, Aug. 27, at St. Luke's Lutheran Church, 205 N. Prospect Ave., Park Ridge, according to a Patch event listing. Rehearsals run every Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. through November.
Artistic director Kevin Kelly is specifically recruiting tenors and basses this season, though singers of all voice parts and experience levels are welcome. The group posted a "Calling All Men Who Love To Sing!" recruitment video on Instagram on Aug. 15, targeting male voices ahead of the fall launch.
The chorus has more than 60 singers who perform pop, rock, Broadway and Great American Songbook selections. Membership is open to breast cancer survivors, their family members and friends of those affected by the disease.
The fall season builds toward concerts titled "Why We Sing: Exploring the Power of Music," scheduled for Nov. 14 and 15. Tickets go on sale Oct. 2.
Voices of Hope formed after the former Sing to Live Community Chorus disbanded for financial reasons. "Everybody was pretty much devastated but got together and said we're not going to have this. We're going to stay together. We're going to keep this going," Kelly said in a November 2023 WGN Midday Fix appearance, describing how members regrouped to continue the breast-cancer-support mission.
The chorus has previously performed at a Chicago Bears game during Breast Cancer Awareness Month and appeared on WGN TV, according to a 2024 Forest Park Review profile.
