Park Ridge and Niles residents can connect with free mental health resources at a wellness fair Nov. 13 at Oakton College in Des Plaines.

State Sen. Laura Murphy, state Reps. Justin Cochran and Michelle Mussman are co-hosting the Mental Health and Wellness Fair for the 28th District on Friday, Nov. 13 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The event takes place in the Performing Arts Center Lobby at Oakton College, 1600 E. Golf Rd.

Murphy said in a statement announcing the event that people dealing with mental health struggles, anxiety or stress should not have to face them alone. She called the fair an opportunity to explore support options available in the community.

The fair will feature a chance to pet service dogs and free resources from government agencies and health service organizations, according to Murphy's office.

At least 10 organizations plan to attend. Among them is Kenneth Young Center, a nonprofit that provides counseling for adults, children and families, crisis stabilization, substance use recovery and an LGBTQ+ center for youth and young adults, according to the organization's website.

KAN-WIN, which operates a 24-hour multilingual crisis hotline and provides services for survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault, is also on the list. The organization serves Asian American communities and offers support in Korean, Chinese and English, according to its website.

The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), LifeSpan, Maine Township, the Oakton Wellness Center and NW CASA round out the nonprofit participants.

Government agencies on the roster include the Cook County Department of Public Health, the Cook County Sheriff and the Clerk of the Circuit Court of Cook County.

Parking is available in Lot A. Attendees should enter through Door 10.

Residents with questions can call Cochran's office at 224-500-3605.
