The O'Hare Noise Compatibility Commission's Technical Committee meets Tuesday, Sept. 22, at 9 a.m., bringing together representatives from Park Ridge, Niles and 41 other communities that track aircraft noise around O'Hare International Airport.

The session is the committee's first since May. The ONCC posted the agenda on Sept. 16, though the full document was not available for review.

At the committee's May 19 meeting, held at Bensenville Village Hall, members reviewed noise monitor updates, Fly Quiet reports and airfield balance data. Mike Latoria of the Village of Itasca chairs the Technical Committee, and ONCC Chair Joseph Annunzio represents the Village of Niles.

The meeting comes as noise complaints near O'Hare continue to climb. The ONCC's most recent Airport Noise Management System report, covering February 2026, showed complaints rose 32% compared with February 2025. Of the commission's 43 noise monitors, 18 recorded an increase of 1 decibel or more over the same period. Total operations were up 16%, according to the same report.

Those trends have drawn attention at the state level. Gov. J.B. Pritzker signed Senate Bill 4041 on July 31, a law championed by State Sen. Laura Murphy (D-Des Plaines) that requires O'Hare and Midway airports to conduct sound-insulation eligibility studies every five years. It takes effect Jan. 1, 2027.

"I continually hear from residents about the need to expand the sound insulation program," Murphy said in a July 31 press release announcing the signing. "As runways have shifted many find their homes in a very different flight pattern."

O'Hare's Airport Modernization Program plans to add three million square feet of new space and increase gate capacity by 25% by 2034, according to Murphy's office. The expansion is shifting flight patterns over previously unaffected neighborhoods, her office said.

The ONCC's sound insulation programs have insulated more than 11,500 homes and 124 schools near O'Hare, according to the commission's website.

The ONCC's next general meeting is scheduled for Friday, Oct. 2, at 9 a.m. The next Technical Committee meeting after Tuesday is set for Oct. 20.
