Maine East's football season ended the way it began: with a loss.
The Blue Demons fell 34-6 to Niles North on Friday, Oct. 16, in their final regular-season game, according to Chicago Sun-Times scores. The defeat sealed a winless 0-9 season for the Park Ridge school.
Maine East scored just six points against the Vikings, matching the total it managed in a 54-6 loss to Vernon Hills on Sept. 25. Those two games produced the only points the Blue Demons put up in Central Suburban League North play all season.
The struggles ran deep. Maine East was shut out four times across the schedule, including a 56-0 loss to Evanston on Sept. 4, a 56-0 defeat to Maine West on Sept. 18 and a 55-0 loss to Glenbrook South in Week 7.
The Journal & Topics reported that the Maine West game at Des Plaines "got ugly fast," calling the 56-0 result the largest shutout win by the Warriors over the Blue Demons since a 61-0 victory in 2000.
Scores are available for all nine games, including a 53–0 loss to West Chicago on Aug. 28 and a 42–7 loss to Glenbrook North on Oct. 9. Maine East scored 33 points across the season.
The season is over. No playoff berth follows an 0-9 record.
District 207 sibling Maine South closed its regular season on a stronger note the same night, beating Glenbrook South 41-34 in CSL South play.
