Twenty-three Park Ridge artists will show their work at Iannelli Studios starting Friday, Sept. 11. The Kalo Foundation of Park Ridge is hosting an opening reception for the exhibit, "Continuing the Tradition," from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the studios, 255 N. Northwest Hwy.

All 23 participating artists are expected to attend the reception, according to the Journal & Topics.

The show spans a wide range of mediums. Maria Hrycela, a Kalo Foundation representative, said the exhibit "will include oil, acrylic, mixed media, pastel, sculpture, photography and ceramic." Hrycela told the Journal & Topics the show's goal is to highlight that Park Ridge remains home to many working artists.

The foundation's Art Committee invited 30 artists who either live in Park Ridge or have ties to the city. Each was asked to submit two pieces. Twenty-three accepted.

A name with history

The exhibit's title nods to a series of shows the now-defunct Park Ridge Art League held at Iannelli Studios during the 2010s. The Art League's last exhibit there was in 2019.

Iannelli Studios carries deep roots in the city's arts scene. Italian-American sculptor Alfonso Iannelli and his wife Margaret established the studio, which sits in a mid-19th century house and former blacksmith shop on Northwest Highway. Iannelli also worked on the interior of the Pickwick Theatre, according to the Park Ridge History Center. The Kalo Foundation, a nonprofit founded in 2006 to preserve the city's arts history, acquired the property in 2011.

Visiting the exhibit

"Continuing the Tradition" remains on display through Saturday, Oct. 24. Iannelli Studios is open to the public on the second and fourth Saturdays of each month from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Upcoming viewing dates include Sept. 12, Sept. 26, Oct. 10 and Oct. 24.
